Our inaugural scientific meeting of the Irish Society of Dental Sleep Medicine took place at the Dublin Dental University Hospital on Saturday 30th September. We had 2 international speakers who kindly gave of their time to present in Dublin.

PROF. OLIVER VANDERVEKEN, ENT and head and neck surgeon  at University of Antwerp, first presented on Prospective prediction of MAD outcome based on anatomical and functional changes in the upper airways of sleep apnoea patients due to mandibular repositioning. His second talk concerened Cardiovascular benefits of oral appliance therapy for OSA.

Dr Roy Dookun, co-founder of the British society of Dental Sleep Medicine (BSDSM), gave 2 presentations also: Firstly, The rationale behind adult pre treatment screening and the the dentist/physician interface and secondly, an Introduction to assessment and choice of appliances.

We are pleased to announce the inaugeral ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC MEETING of the ISDSM. We invite dentists and other health professionals with an interest in Dental Sleep Medicine to join us for this one day event.

DENTAL MANAGEMENT OF SNORING AND OBSTRUCTIVE SLEEP APNOEA (OSA)

Sleep Physicians will be giving a general overview of OSA, Snoring and the relationship between the two conditions, treatments they can offer, where they see oral appliances benefitting the patient (non-apnoeic, mild-mod OSA, CPAP non-compliant), local referral pathways and willingness to accept referrals after BSDSM /ISDSM pre-treatment screening.

We will also give guidance on the role of the GDP in the screening of snoring patients for OSA and the referral pathway for diagnosis and treatment as part of a multidisciplinary team in the treatment of these patients.
